Evolution 21 is a Belgian luxury textile and furniture designer based in Mechelen and was only recently introduced to the Canadian market. Since 1718, Mechelen has been a hub for the Belgian furniture industry and Evolution 21 is continuing to uphold the tradition of high quality, beautifully designed textiles and furniture that has made Belgium famous.
Karine Bonjean is the owner and lead designer of Evolution 21. As an experienced Interior Designer with a passion for texture, textiles and furniture, Karine found it difficult to source fabrics that matched her design plans. This motivated her to start creating her own textile designs, which has grown into what is now Evolution 21.
Evolution 21 is the only European textile designer to apply a unique creative process of first designing the fabric, then selecting each thread to ensure the texture and quality is exactly right before having the fabrics woven in either Belgium or Italy. Each fibre is dyed and washed before weaving to ensure colour fastness and to prevent shrinking. The result is beautiful, originally designed fabrics with a high rub count that are ideal for upholstery and drapery. Karine creates “Harmonies”, combining six fabrics by colour scheme and playing with weaves and textures to create collections that work perfectly together.
Evolution 21 has a portfolio of international commercial and residential projects, as well as beautiful yacht refurbishments. Karine and her team recently signed a partnership with Flying Group, an Antwerp based private jet company, to upholster the interiors.
In addition to over 65 artisanal fabrics the Evolution 21 collection has to offer, this summer they have introduced a new line of over 100 variations of toile fabrics for indoor and outdoor use.
